The third edition of the AmuwoGames 2021 Press Conference took place today, October 14, 2021, at the Amuwo Odofin Local Government Secretariat in Festac town.
The National Anthem kicked off the conference at around 11:15 a.m. The initiative’s brainchild, Mr. Seun Ayeni, was ushered to the podium by the MC for a brief introductory remark. He gave a brief speech to thank everyone who was present, including the Hon. Chairman of the Local Government, the Excellency Buraimoh Valentine, the Vice Chairman, Hon. Maureen Chika, the Chief of Staff, Ward Councilors, AmuwoGames team members, corporate sponsors, and media partners.
He went on to explain to the audience why the sporting event was considered a festival. It is a month-long event with various sporting activities and participants from across the local government. As is customary, he introduced the new game that will be included in this year’s edition, a 5-aside football game for all football fans. He announced that approximately 17 games would be played in this year’s edition, including football, basketball, volleyball, table tennis, scrabble, chess, draft, video games, swimming, cycling, marathon, and so on. He emphasized that people were expected to register online (minisportsfestival.com/amuwogames) because the room would be closed in a few days.
Hon. Buraimoh Valentine, delivered the keynote address and expressed his delight at being a part of the third edition. He praised everyone involved in the initiative and the success of the previous two editions. He emphasized the significance of sporting initiative in the discovery of talent and the development of communal relationships. He also stated unequivocally that this type of event has not only financially empowered our youths, but has also significantly improved the level of peace in the local government. He also stated that this initiative would be expanded to other local governments in Lagos State as time went on, as he was ecstatic about it.
Amuwo Odofin Lawmaker, Hon. Mojisola Macaulay (Mama Amuwo), Lanre Shittu Motors Nigeria Limited, Kunle Ologun Foundation, Olatokunbo Foundation, Dream Rite, Alex Pharmacy, Perception Technologies, Darius Turf, and other corporate sponsors were present at the press venue.
